CONCEPTS

  • Simple Concept: Germs are tiny things that live on our hands and can make us sick. Using soap removes them to keep us healthy!

  • Advanced Concept: Germs are microscopic organisms that can live on our hands and surfaces. They can cause colds, flu, and other illnesses. Glitter acts like tiny germs because it sticks to your skin when you touch it, just like germs do. When you shake hands or touch things after touching glitter, the glitter moves and spreads, showing how germs travel. Soap helps wash away the glitter (and germs), stopping them from spreading to you or others!

MATERIALS

  • Shallow Dish

  • Water

  • Glitter

  • Soap

INSTRUCTIONS

  • Add water into the shallow dish. Pour glitter on top of the water.

  • Sticker your hand in the glitter water.

  • Give someone a handshake or touch other surfaces to see glitter transfer.

  • Rub your clean hand with soap and repeat steps 2 & 3.

  • Observe which hand has less glitter “germs”!
