Concepts:
Simple Concept: Archaeologists are like detectives who find old broken things buried in the ground. When they find the pieces, they try to put them back together, kind of like a puzzle. This helps them learn about people who lived a long time ago.
Advanced Concept: Archaeologists spend a lot of time excavating, which is when they carefully dig in the dirt to uncover things from the past. A common item they find is pottery, which are clay pots that were used for cooking, storing food, or carrying water. Over time, these pots often break and get buried underground. Archaeologists then use attention to detail, problem-solving, and critical thinking to put the pieces back together.
Materials:
Clay Pot
Pottery Glue
Paint
Hammer
Paper Bag
Instructions:
Paint some fun designs on your clay pot. If paint is not available, a sharpie can also work!
After the design has dried, place in a heavy duty paper bag and close. CAREFULLY use the hammer to break the pot into pieces.
Lay out all of the pieces and match up the designs. Use the glue to piece the pot back together!
**Only do this activity with adult supervision!**
